21 Easy Tips to Saving Money

There is definitely a sense of satisfaction from going to the store with nothing but a few dollars and a handful of coupons and coming home with a sack full of stuff:)   Sometimes I even have more coupons than groceries!  Playing the “coupon game” is a fun challenge with some great benefits.  For Russell and I it’s allowed us a little more freedom in our budget to do fun activities with the kiddos.  It’s also allowed us to share our savings and blessing with others.  We’ve been able to take some of our savings and donate to our local food bank.  The great thing about using the couponing technique is we can give so much more.  It’s a great feeling.  If your interested in learning how to save on your shopping experience, check out our links below and give it a try!   Who knows…you might look this excited the next time you grocery shop:)DSC_0168_edited-1

Kroger Mega Event

20131110-135410.jpg

If you have a Kroger in your area, this week is a great time to stock up on  a few staples!  Check out our Kroger Mega Event tips!  page and get your savings on!  I saved 55% on this shopping trip! We  would love to hear about your savings too!

Grocery Price list

Two frugal Gals thought it would be nice to put together a little rock bottom price list that you can print out and keep on hand as a reference when you’re shopping. Keep in mind that this list is based on our experience, so your personal rock bottom prices may very.  If you’re just starting, every item you purchase has a retail price, a sale price and a rock bottom price. A price log is a simple way to keep note of what you’re paying for an item.  Just take a sheet of paper and write out 10 or 20 items that you buy every week, then, every single time you walk into the grocery store, write the price of that item down on the paper.  You’ll need to do this for 6 to 8 weeks.  Yes, it’s tedious but you’ll suddenly notice the price changes of your items and this will determine how low your prices can go and how ling you need to stock up.  Once you find that rock bottom price, that is when you use your coupon then you stock up!

Kohl’s Rewards

KOHLS REWARDS BANNERA couple of months ago I posted about Kohl’s and how to save money despite all the gimmicks!  Well, they have just added yet another gimmick to help us save….as long as we are strategic!!! This is currently in the testing phase and is available in 100 stores.  When you go to enroll, it will tell you if your store is participating.

KOHLS REWARDS ENROLL PAGE  Go to their website to enroll.  They will send you a rewards card in the mail.  Every time you shop, give them your email address, phone number, or let them scan the card.  For every $1 you spend you get a point.  When you reach 100 points, you will get $5 to spend in the store.

The greatest part is that you get 100 points immediately once you sign up.  I read all the fine print for the program and it seems pretty straight forward.  I think you can use your reward points along with a coupon.  (This just means that the shirt I was eyeing last time I was in there will be $5 cheaper when I go back in!!!)

HAPPY SHOPPING!!!

M&M Teacher Appreciation gift

Teacher appreciation gift

Put on your seat belt… I tried something new for the girls teacher appreciation week (Thanks to my good friend Sara:)  I bought these cute little paint cans at Hobby Lobby for $1.99 (I’ve also seen them done with mason jars) and some colorful ribbon to tie at the top.  It was my lucky week, Walgreens had their M&M’s on sale and I just happened to have a coupon!  Who doesn’t like M&M’s?!  I printed out this cute M&M poem and glued it to the front of the can. Easy peasy frugal breezy!  Here’s the poem (in case you want to copy, paste & use)

Green is for the inspiration you give me each day.

Blue is for your patience in showing me the way.

Orange is for your warmth and caring style.

Yellow is for the way you always make me smile.

Red is for my life that you have touched this year.

You’re a very special teacher just like this jar, that’s clear.

You place knowledge in our children’s hands

and melt into their hearts and lives forever.

You’re a “Magnificent” & “Marvelous” teacher

Thank you for being my M&M.

KROGER MEGA EVENT TIPS

If you have a Kroger store in your area, you are in LUCK!  While they no longer double any coupons, they do have mega events periodically where you can save BIG!  A mega event is a time when they give you $5 off your bill for every 10 participating items that you buy.  These items are marked in the store with tags.

krog tag

For all you game players out there, this is the time to STOCK UP!!!

Here are some tips for saving some serious cash during these sales:

1.  Make sure to purchase the exact number of items.  You get $5 off for every 10 items.  If you buy 14, you won’t get the discount on the last four items.  I normally put all my participating items in one section of my cart and then place them together on the belt when I check out to make sure!

2.  STOCK UP!  This is the time to buy lots of the items that you will use!  If it can be frozen or will stay fresh, buy extra to get you through until the next mega event.

3.  Don’t buy it if you won’t use it! (Unless you want to donate it!)  It may be a great deal, but it is a waste of money if you will not use it.

4.  Keep an eye out for items that are cheap and don’t need a coupon for maximum savings.  These are great fillers when you are an item or two short of an even 10.

Keep in mind, that every time they do this they are different.  There are some items that seem to show up often, and others only every now and then.  Here are some examples of a few of the items that I will be stocking up on this week to give you an idea of how you can save BIG!

photo(17)I have a $2/1 coupon for this detergent making it only $0.75

photo(23)

Hefty bags coupons $1.50/2 makes each box only $0.25

photo(24)

Goldfish, these are a favorite around my house and $0.79 is a fantastic price.  I will be STOCKING UP!!!

photo(25)Barbecue sauce….my kids will eat many things as long as they have it!  You can’t go wrong with $0.50.  This is also a great filler if you have 8 items and need a couple to get you to the magic 10.

photo(26)I have a coupon for $0.55/2 making these $1.22.  That makes for some FRUGALICIOUS sandwiches!

ENJOY!!
